Health Insurance For Mental Health Is Terrible. This $4.6 Billion Startup Is Shaking Up The Status Quo.

Managing mental health needs was a concern for many prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and has only grown as an issue since then. The challenge is finding (and affording) necessary care when services can be hard to find and not covered by insurance even for those who have it. Lyra Health, a company based in California, is changing that by coordinating a global network of mental health care providers, leveraging AI to help match the most suited providers to patients based on their needs, and selling the service to companies to supplement the existing health benefits for their employees.

The heightened appreciation for mental health on overall wellbeing and productivity is forcing support for mental health into everyday conversations and helping to remove the stigma of mental health. It is also opening discussion on how to more effectively incorporate mental health care into the existing health system from both access to services and funding perspectives. How might access to health services look differently when mental health is a regular part of the conversation?
