US weather data has revealed that the Artic has experienced its warmest winter on record, with sea ice hitting record lows for the time of year. The land weather station closest to the North Pole spent more than 60 hours above freezing in February. Prior to this year, it had only risen above freezing twice in February, and only very briefly. February’s record high temperatures have been more like those typical of May, astounding climate scientists.
