UK MPs call for ban of microplastics in cosmetics

Resource / UK MPs call for ban of microplastics in cosmetics

By Toby Strudwick / 24 Aug 2016

Environmental Audit commitee have called for a total legal ban on the use of microplastics in cosmetics, such as shower scrubs and toothpaste.

Each year 86 tons of microbeads are released into the ocean from facial exfoliants in the UK alone.

The use of microplastics in cosmetics is avoidable.

The group of MPs call for an international ban but if this is not possible after voting to leave the EU, then a national ban should be implemented immediately.

What might the implications of this be? What related resources have you seen?
