Report assesses the impact of 'mega-ships'

Resource / Report assesses the impact of 'mega-ships'

The International Transport Forum (ITF) and the OECD have published a report assessing the impact of giant container ships or ‘mega-ships’ on maritime transport.

Over the past decade, the average capacity of a container ship has doubled. Whilst this generates cost savings in transport, larger ships require adaptions of infrastructure, and cause greater container traffic in ports.

This report assesses if the benefits of mega-ships still outweigh their costs to the whole transport chain.

The report forms part of a wider collaborative project between the OECD and ITF on the impact of mega-ships.
