Cultured meat, grown in vitro, is made of animal-flesh, but has never been part of a living animal. The process involves taking muscle cells and applying a protein that promotes tissue growth.

 

In 2013, Cultured Beef, a collaboration of scientists based at Maastricht University, produced the first recognisable meat product created using culturing techniques. This video explains the process they use to produce cultured meat.
