US releases new dietary guidelines

Resource / US releases new dietary guidelines

By Madhumitha Ardhanari / 11 Jan 2016

What stands out in this year's dietary guidelines in comparison to previous years is the focus on cutting back sugar. More notably, they recommend men and boys to reduce their intake of protein while adding more vegetables to diets.

The impact of this shift in thinking might not directly influence American or global consumers but will influence affect school lunch programmes and other national food policies.

Might this be the first in a series of events and policies to mitigate global demand for protein?

What might the implications of this be? What related resources have you seen?
