India’s first wind energy tender oversubscribed by more than double

Signal of change / India’s first wind energy tender oversubscribed by more than double

By Saksham Nijhawan / 08 Mar 2017

The first-ever competitive auction in the wind energy sector in India has received an overwhelming response from project developers, with the tender being oversubscribed 2.6 times. This marks the beginning of a possible shift to a more balanced renewable energy sector in India, which is heavily dependent on solar for now. The tender paves way for a move away from feed in tariffs (FITs) to competitive auction for wind power and should make it more attractive to distribution companies to buy from from, thus, bringing down tariffs in the process.
