Chronophotography reveals patterns of birds in flight

Signal of change / Chronophotography reveals patterns of birds in flight

By Anna Simpson / 25 Apr 2017

Xavi Bou, a photographer from Barcelona, has developed a version of chronotography to capture the patterns generated by flocks of birds in flight. His series, Ornitographies, is an invitation to reflect on patterns and structures in natural systems.

So what?

The more we observe patterns in the world around us, the more we can understand how our own behaviours affect them. Xavi Bou shows how the practice of watching for patterns can be an art in itself - expanding the bounds of human perception. Where in the world would you most like to explore hidden patterns?
