Duke Energy Florida cancels nuclear project, and will instead invest $6 billion in solar

click to enlarge Duke Energy Florida, the biggest powerhouse of Orlando's three power-providers, has just made a dramatic turn towards solar. In a statement released this week, the energy behemoth said it will be canceling its long outstanding plans for the Levy Nuclear Plant, and is now putting $6 billion into new solar panels, grids, and other sun-powered projects.

What might the implications of this be? What related signals of change have you seen?

Changing our energy system without changing extractive dependency creating will buy a little time at best. Climate change is a symptom of over-consumption driven by extractive capital and associated marketing. If we upgrade our energy system without creating community energy sovereignty what do we gain? If Duke reimagined their model as facilitators of prosumer energy production i'd be more impressed.
