Signal of change / A mushroom suit has been created for a more eco-friendly burial

By Shola Powell / 08 Feb 2018

Coeio, a New-York based company, has designed the ‘Infinity Burial Suit’ to promote a more environmentally friendly alternative to more traditional burial processes. The suit uses mushroom spores to decompose the body and its toxins and allow the body “to return the earth and use one’s body in a beneficial way” as explained by Jae Rhim Lee, the suit’s creator. The company also offers products for pets.

So what?

Using mushrooms to decompose the body offers an alternative to other processes such as cremation, which uses a large amount of fossil fuels. What is the future of burials as people become more aware of the impact on the environment and land scarcity increases?
