UK public dissatisfied with government's efforts to diminish plastic waste

Signal of change / UK public dissatisfied with government's efforts to diminish plastic waste

By Shola Powell / 09 Feb 2018

A survey carried out by D-CYFOR shows that 61% of UK public don’t think enough is being done by the government to encourage companies to use recyclable packaging. A “latte levy” on disposable coffee cups as proposed by MPs has received 24% support, while 49% want to see coffee shop charge customers less for bringing their own reusable cups.

So what?

This reaction demonstrates the public’s engagement with the plastic-waste issue and gives hope for similar support for other environmental sustainable changes. With pressure from the public, governments and businesses are more likely to make the necessary changes.
