Signal of change / Tesla plans battery storage for 50,000 solar-powered homes in Australia

By Shola Powell / 21 Feb 2018

Tesla is helping to build lithium battery storage units in South Australia with plans to provide at least 50,000 homes with solar panels and connect them to the electricity grids. Installation is free and the cost will be covered by the sale of electricity. Over 6,500 homes have already registered their interest in participating, and houses will benefit from cheaper energy bills.

So what?

The solar panels and batteries should provide a more reliable energy supply in South Australia which has frequent power outages and shortages. This is an example of corporations and governments working together to create sustainable energy. The scale of the targeted area and Tesla’s growing reputation make this is a significant project, how can these collaborations continue in the future?
