Ikea joins Big Clean Switch to offer 100% renewable energy

Signal of change / Ikea joins Big Clean Switch to offer 100% renewable energy

By Ella-Louise Micallef / 21 Feb 2018

Ikea is calling for households to be a part of its latest joint venture, a collective energy switch that promises an exclusive 100% renewable electricity tariff. The retailer has joined forces with the “Big Clean Switch” campaign by using a collective switch to secure a cheaper green power tariff for the households that sign up. Those interested register their interest, before the Big Clean Switch negotiates the best deal with its green suppliers, at which point customers can choose whether or not to sign up to the tariff. The prices will be announced on 6th March.

So what?

Whilst the tariff negotiated won’t necessarily undercut the cheapest green electricity suppliers already available, sequestering the power of numbers in an attempt to achieve a collective switch to a more sustainable and affordable energy tariff is nonetheless a positive step.

Previous collective switches have offered customers large savings, though this is not guaranteed. Fundamentally it is helping people to consider green energy as something that is not only more environmentally friendly, but also money saving, and could help shift more consumers to greener energy providers.
