Signal of change / Decarbonization: Battery Storage Could Provide Grid Reliabilility

By Carol Brighton / 15 Nov 2018

Natural gas has been touted as a "clean" fossil fuel that can bridge a gap in the electric sector as the deployment of renewable tech ramps up and to ensure grid reliability when renewable supply cannot keep up with demand. With advances in battery storage, the need for natural gas plants is being called into question. In California, regulators have approved the construction of the world's largest battery system. The endeavor signals another shift away from natural gas in the electric industry.
