Mapping the protein system for the first time

by Futures Centre, Jun 12
1 minute read

Forum for the Future has drawn on insights from plant, animal, seafood and alternative supply chains to depict the complex relationships in the global protein system. The result is a global protein system map, shown above, which was created as part of The Protein Challenge 2040: the first innovation forum to explore how we balance supply and demand of protein for a growing population in a way which is affordable, healthy and good for the environment.

The map draws on research across a wide variety of stakeholders, who came together at a workshop facilitated by Forum for the Future in June 2015. It outlines Forum’s perspective on the key supply chain flows, sustainability impacts and stakeholder groups within the protein system, and the broad inter-relationships between these stakeholders and protein categories today.
