Ban on manufacture of plastic micro beads comes into force in the UK

Earlier this month the ban on the manufacture of plastic microbeads came into force in the UK, preventing them from being used in cosmetic products. These small pieces of plastic are often used is products such as shower gels and facial scrubs to aid exfoliation. As a result of their small size they often slip through waste water treatment plants, and end up in the sea, which is damaging to marine life. A ban on the sale of these products will follow in July 2018.
