by Mary McCarthy, Dec 15

During Climate Week, Walmart announced an ambition to be a regenerative company, defined by Walmart CEO Doug McMillon as, “one that works to restore, renew and replenish in addition to preserving our planet, and encourages others to do the same.”

So what?

This follows previous announcements by Walmart, like Project Gigaton, which acknowledge the role retailers have in influencing other businesses in address climate change. The announcement builds on growing energy amongst corporations that are setting regenerative targets. Walmart is the first retailer to do so, and one of the largest to set the ambition of regeneration at the business level, rather than focusing on regenerative agriculture.
