A groundbreaking set of new and diverse history modules developed by teachers and council staff in the London borough of Hackney, has been rolled out in local primary schools. “The Black Contribution” is a nine week lesson plan to teach young people Black British History with a focus on the contribution of Black people across the ages including topics such as The Windrush Generation, Diversity in Science and Activism.
So what?
The new curriculum brings the importance of Black History into the classroom at a young age. This could signify the start of a nationwide rollout of Black History into mainstream education to provide much needed context and enlightenment and help to support anti-racism.
