The Magic Mushroom Company recently received £3m to support scaling up its operations. The business uses ‘mycelium’ (the root structure of a mushroom) to create a product that is durable, and most importantly biodegradable within 45 days.
Their aim is to discourage the use of plastic packaging and remove it entirely from the global supply chain.
So what?
The focus for now remains on creating an alternative to single use plastic packaging, but there are many other single-use plastic items that we use and some that we cannot cease to use e.g. medical items.
What would happen if The Magic Mushroom Company branched out to tackle single-use plastic products entirely? Could this help us win the war against plastic and waste?
