Google is set to launch 3-6 month courses for career certificates. The courses will require approximately 5 hrs a week to complete and cost around $600. They require no previous education and will be recognized as equivalent to 4-year college degrees by Google’s hiring teams.

A growing number of firms including, Starbucks, Hilton, Penguin Random House, Intel, Apple, Chipotle, IBM, and Bank of America are posting jobs without college degree requirements.

If so, what consequences would ubiquitous online learning have on wider socio-economic and environmental systems including mental health, social engagement, equitable hiring practices, and environmental impact?
