New record low has been set for price of solar in auction in Saudi Arabia where they are making a big move away from fossil fuels towards renewables for their domestic generation (which at these prices obviously makes sense as they can then sell the oil abroad for more!). The bid is from EDF and Masdar:

Saudi solar tender attracts stunning low bid of $US17.9/MWh, as even the conservative IEA hails a “new era of solar.” And while Australia currently enjoys an investment boom, a new report by Climate Council says “politics” is the only major barrier to a high penetration renewable grid.
