On 20 March 2018, San Francisco supervisors voted unanimously to ban the sale of fur, becoming the largest US city to do so. The ban comes into force on 1 January 2019, and includes any apparel or accessories which contain fur including coats and key chains. Retailers will be allowed to sell their current inventory until 1 January 2020.
