Taiwan is aiming to implement a blanket ban on all single-use plastic bags, containers, cups, utensils and straws by 2030. The ban will be phased in over time, and begin in 2019 with chain restaurants that currently provide customers with straws, leading to an overall ban on straws in all dining establishments by 2020. Retail outlets will also be charged for providing free plastic bags and disposable food containers and utensils in 2020.
