Air pollution is a more immediate threat than climate change to the nation’s rare and endangered plants as high levels of nitrogen let certain species like nettles run wild, a study shows. A report into emissions from burning fossil fuels and from agriculture revealed that nitrogen was having a “devastating impact” on wild plants, lichens and fungi.
