What to know about women in Secret Service as critics claim ‘DEI’ for Trump’s chooting

On Saturday, July 13, 2024, Trump was shot in the ear during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania. After the incident, conspiracy theories and blame have saturated the news, including some, mostly conservative, blaming DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) policies within the Secret Service, and the fact that at the rally Trump had female agents protecting him.

So what?

In the US, DEI policies have been under attack by Republicans, across federal agencies, schools, and other organizations, and at the state level. These moves to take away rights of individuals and roll back protections & initiatives that help to address systemic inequalities will make it much harder to transition to a just and regenerative future, as we take one step forward and seemingly three steps backwards.
